How to distribute technical documentation? The ROBERT SA example
Within the past two years A to Z Performance has been developing technical documentation for ROBERT SA, an agricultural equipment manufacturer based in Belgium.
After initially devoting time to technical writing strictly speaking, the way of "distributing” documentation to the client was studied. Several documents were created, such as operating instructions, hydraulic diagrams, and a spare parts catalog.
For cost reasons, such as storage, speed of updating, paper and printing which could not be envisaged by the company ROBERT SA. We therefore worked on a USB stick, containing all the documentation concerning the same machine, both technical or commercial (photos, videos, brochure ...).
The interface of this USB stick initially allows you to select the desired language :
Then the client can access the documents of his choice :
Currently, 1 USB key corresponds to one machine, but it is possible to group several machines on the same USB key.
In addition to this USB key, three documents remain to be printed:
- Warranty activation voucher
- Declaration of conformity
- The operating instructions, required before the first use of the machine, IE: 1 page A4 or A5 format.
The customer thus has all the information essential for the first start-up of their machine in "paper" version and when they need it, all the additional information on the USB key.
There are multiple advantages for ROBERT SA: little storage of documents, reduced costs, fast updating.
